LET THEM GIVE TOO
"It is more blessed to give than to receive."
Jesus went one step further. I see a lot of "acts of kindness" videos, and I think most humans--even Christians--limit the Love of God. Jesus realized true giving, not material needs alone, was also giving out blessedness which included helping the recipient give! He approached the woman at the well with the request: please give me water. He knew this would result in her being blessed, and He wanted this for her.
Most acts of charity involve the giver on top benefiting the better-be-grateful needy person unilaterally.
It is easier for a church to visit a shut-in and give to him flowers or something to eat--this church activity makes people feel blessed for doing it--rather than to spend time and energy thinking of a way for that shut-in to give his gifts and serve God in a way only he could and ask if he would help in that way--this would make the shut-in receive the blessing!
By saying, "please help me", can't I do what Jesus did for the Samaritan woman at the well: reach out to others that they would receive the blessing of giving?
